This Week's Artistic Endeavors - Teacher Gifts
I unashamedly being the most "extra" when it comes to teacher gifts.
In honor of teacher appreciation week, I want to promote the use of CANVA for all your DIY gift cards and tags.
I am not anything special, nor do I recreate the wheel. For this year's teacher appreciation, I wanted to do Chick-fil-A gift cards and a cute personalized tag. I asked ChatGPT to give me suggestions on "cute puns using Chick-fil-A and teacher appreciation notes." I took my favorite suggestion, googled a free-downloadable font that looks like the Chick-fil-A font, and accessed the free elements on Canva to make my design.
I use that same process for each seasonal theme, or topic. My imagination typically comes up with the gist of an idea on its own, but I always use the readily available resources like Google and ChatGPT to refine my ideas and create a workable tag/gift, etc.
I linked my Youtube tutorial on how to use Canva for this exact project. Also, if you're an educator, you get a free Canva Pro account! You need to be utilizing this tool! Additionally, I have a LTK storefront that allows me to tag all the things I love to buy. I include a lot of the supplies and materials from the projects I share about in my newsletters, so you can filter through it and find materials and supplies linked from past projects I have suggested.
Latest Work - Shop My Originals
A lot of the artwork I showcase and promote are commissioned pieces of art, but did you know I also "paint for painting's sake"!? I often paint nature-esque landscapes that embodies memories and experiences. I also love painting non-objective artwork that expresses emotion, usually that embodies the essence of experiences in life.
I have an entire room in my house that has walls filled and shelves stacked with paintings I have done and framed. Yes - I build my own custom stained, wooden frames! It is actually the most rewarding to see a completed painting framed and ready to hang, in a frame that I built.
I would love for you to find forever spots in your homes for my paintings! If you are interested, visit my online shop linked below and purchase paintings directly from my website!
Personally Speaking... Walmart Mural Unveiling
One of my favorite artistic opportunities over the last few years has been working with Walmart to create community based murals for different stores in the Knoxville area.
The goal of each mural is to create a piece of art that embodies the natural landscape of the area, showcases important cultural landmarks of the neighborhood, and most importantly, captivates the essence of the people who represent the community.
Being from a Walmart family, and growing up in Knoxville, this type of collaboration is near and dear to my heart. I love that I get to have a connection to the corporation alongside my family members, but through my artistry.
Currently, I have two murals installed in Walmart stores in Knoxville. The first being at the University store on Chapman Highway (store #2310) and my hometown store, the Powell Walmart, on Clinton Highway (store #1318).
I am excited to announce the upcoming unveiling of my third mural installation at the Alcoa Walmart (store #672) on May 16th at 8:00 a.m. This unveiling is just a small segment of a larger event, the grand re-opening of the Walmart store after a complete remodel of the store. It would be a pleasure to have you at the re-opening, but the mural, along with the other murals, is a permanent installation at the entrance of the store, so can be seen at anytime when shopping!
Artists Supporting Artists -
Haylie Creates
One of the most fun and rewarding things is seeing your former students go on to become amazing, wonderful young adults. And that is Haylie! I am so excited and proud of all that she is doing and working toward. I continue to be impressed by her unapologetic confidence and marketing of herself as an artist! She deserves all the support!
Haylie is a local, Knoxville based artist (and teacher!!) I love her vibrant use of color and bold line work. Her pink-heavy aesthetic is also a favorite of mine! Haylie creates original paintings, prints, and custom commissions.
Please go support by student (once mine, always mine!) and purchase a print or custom painting! Or, just as supportive, give her a follow on Instagram!
